Abstract

Session Description: Representatives from the Medical Society of Delaware (MSD), Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN), and Haven Health Solutions will discuss the utilization of blockchain and a community-wide collaborative approach to solve the prior authorization problem that plagues physicians and patients in Delaware. The panel will share how they connected people, process, and technology in an innovative way to meet the needs of the patient and physician.

Vince Albanese, Haven Health Solutions, CEO

Founder and CEO of Haven Health, Vince Albanese is an innovator and successful serial entrepreneur whose skills span decades of success and cutting edge innovation. As CEO of Haven Health, Vince is focused exclusively on delivering enterprise-grade, healthcare blockchain solutions. Vince’s background is fielded in software engineering, mastering the art and talent of designing and building innovative and cutting edge platforms. In his past experiences, he was CIO, ISFA/INVEST where he created and deployed and public stock and insurance brokerage network with the Resolution Trust Company. Vince was Global Director, Technology for R.P. Scherer, an architecting pharmaceutical manufacturing IT company representing 21 plants in 13 countries. Vince co-founded, oversaw, and subsequently sold a national consulting company focused on process manufacturing ERP solutions servicing a dozen Fortune 50 process manufacturing firms. He additionally co-founded the Oracle Process Manufacturing User Group, the i2 Technologies User Group and was Chief Architect and CIO for Gratis Card Technologies.

Equally as impressive as Vince’s professional profile is his philanthropic profile. As Co-Founder and CEO of The Green Armada Foundation, Vince secured the prestigious Heroes of the Year Award by People Magazine and was featured in Reader’s Digest, CNN, NBC, and Fox News. Vince assisted in the formation of the Blue Community Consortium, which was the first UN World Tourist Observatory in North America. Its reach today extends across Central Florida and into the Caribbean. The Blue Community Consortium is deploying Haven Health’s blockchain technology to improve transparency, verification of results, and sharing of data related to sustainable tourism.     

Mark Jacobs, Delaware Health Information Network, Chief Information Officer

Mark Jacobs is the first Delaware Health Information Network  (DHIN) Chief Information Officer (CIO). He provides vision and leadership for developing and implementing information technology initiatives for DHIN in support of the health information exchange (HIE) needs of the Delaware health care community and beyond, including regional cross-border initiatives. 

As CIO, he is responsible for vendor management, ensuring that contract deliverables are met on time and within scope and budget, and also responsible for short and long term strategy and planning for DHIN’s data management, system architecture, service levels, interoperability, risk-management and mitigations, and implementation of features, functions and sources of health information.  

Mark B. Thompson, Medical Society of Delaware, Executive Director

Mark B. Thompson is currently the Executive Director of the Medical Society of Delaware. He received his AB from Duke University and his Masters in Health Services Administration from The George Washington University. Mr. Thompson has nearly twenty five years of experience in healthcare marketing, public relations, community relation, government affairs, and association management services.  He has served in management and leadership positions with Georgetown University Medical Center, St. Joseph's Regional Health System (Reading and Lancaster, PA), St. Francis Health System (Wilmington, DE), and Beebe Medical Center (Lewes, DE).  Mr. Thompson also has leadership experiencing in higher education with the University of Maryland, Baltimore. One of his most memorable accomplishments was a marketing and public relations consulting trip to Moscow, Russia where he had the honor to serve as a guest lecturer at Moscow State University.  Mr. Thompson serves on a number of Boards and has a gubernatorial appointment as a member on the Delaware Health Resources Board.  When he's not pursuing professional interests, Mr. Thompson's time is focused on his two daughters, Emily and Caitlin, and their many activities.
